One killed and two injured in Paris attack near Eiffel Tower Empty One killed and two injured in Paris attack near Eiffel Tower

There was a stabbing in central Paris that killed one man and injured two others, one of whom was a British national. The attackers used hammers and knives.

On Saturday, just before 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT), an attack happened close to the Eiffel Tower.

The anti-terrorism prosecution has launched an inquiry following the arrest of a 26-year-old French citizen known to the security services.

A German national was the one slain, according to authorities.

On Quai de Grenelle, the guy was stabbed to death while walking with his wife, according to France's Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.

A cab driver reportedly intervened to save the wife's life, and the perpetrator escaped across a nearby Seine River bridge, according to him.

The preacher went on to say that the man assaulted two further individuals, striking one with a hammer to the eye.

Police Tasered the suspect, who was later detained on suspicion of assassination and attempted assassination in relation to a terrorist operation; the latter is described in French law as premeditated murder. The suspect was called Armand R in French media.

The two victims, a tourist from the UK and a Frenchman in his 60s, were taken to the hospital, but thankfully, neither of them was in critical condition.

The UK Foreign Office issued the following statement: "We are supporting a British man who was injured in Paris and are in contact with the local authorities."

Authorities warned the public to stay away from the Bir-Hakeim metro station on Saturday night after a police operation was launched in the vicinity.

"So many Muslims are dying in Afghanistan and in Palestine," the suspected assailant told police, and Mr. Darmanin stated that the man's cries of "Allahu Akbar"—Arabic for "God is greatest"—were audible.

The suspect was on the radar of the French security services, he added, and had spent a four-year prison sentence for an earlier 2016 conviction related to an attack plot.

It was also reported that the individual had a history of mental health issues, according to Mr. Darmanin.

The suspect allegedly addressed the killing of innocent Muslims and criticized the French government in a video that went viral on Saturday, according to the AFP news agency.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the victims of the "terrorist attack" and expressed gratitude to the emergency services in a post on X, the former Twitter.

"The national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office will now be responsible for shedding light on this affair so that justice can be done in the name of the French people.," according to him.

This comes little over two months after a high school teacher in Arras, a city in northern France, was stabbed to death, causing the French government to issue the highest national security alert.
