Are you okay! Sri Lanka raises electricity bill by 264%
Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Sri Lanka's state-owned monopoly power company. It announcedhilorich 456a 264% increase in electricity bills for those who use less electricity, while those who use more electricity will be charged an increase of around 80 percent.
The announcement came after CEB suffered a cumulative loss of $616 million, or over 22 billion baht, for the first time in nine years to make a jump in electricity bills. It is effective on August 10.
About two-thirds of households use less than 90 kW of electricity per month. It will be the group that is most affected by the increase in electricity prices. It was previously charged at Rs 2.50 per unit to Rs 8.0 per unit, while large consumers who previously paid Rs 45 per unit for electricity will have to pay an increase to Rs 75 per unit.
However, the number of electricity bills increased by 264% for low-income groups. It's still much lower than the CEB's initial request of 800%, as regulators have limited electricity bill hikes. Currently, CEB is facing a serious problem because it is unable to purchase oil to use as a generator. As a result, Sri Lanka faces a long power outage. including the problem of severe inflation
